The Glossary.

A plain-English reference to the chemistry, coverage, and certifications behind every Shingle Serum application. Everything a homeowner — or a specifier — needs to feel confident before we ever set a ladder.

01 / 06Coverage

The 7-Year Limited Warranty

Every Shingle Serum application is backed by a written seven-year (84-month) product warranty issued by The Attic Depot. If treated asphalt shingles fail the Standardized Flexibility Test within the warranty period, replacement product is provided on a prorated basis.

Coverage is product-only and does not extend to labor, granule loss, structural issues, faulty installation of the underlying roof system, or damage from wind, hail, ice, snow, or other weather events. Those are addressed through the homeowner's insurance policy.

Tall Oil vs. Soy Oil

Not all shingle rejuvenators are engineered equally. Shingle Serum is built on tall oil — a byproduct of pine chemistry — while most competitors rely on soy-based emulsions. The difference shows up where it matters most: UV resistance, heat stability, and long-term durability.

Tall oil is chemically similar to the maltenes that already exist in asphalt, allowing it to penetrate, bind, and rejuvenate rather than sit on the surface. Soy-based products soften temporarily but degrade under sustained Florida sun.

What Is Tall Oil?

Tall oil is a natural pine-derived resin — a sustainable co-product of the kraft paper process. Its molecular structure closely mirrors the aged bitumen inside asphalt shingles, which is why it restores rather than merely coats.

Compared to soybean oil and other plant emulsions, tall oil offers a dramatically longer service life, superior UV screening, and consistent performance under thermal cycling — the exact conditions that break down a Florida roof.

Temporary Softening vs. Lasting Rejuvenation

The industry shorthand: plant oils equal temporary softening. Tall oil equals lasting rejuvenation and superior performance.

Softening a shingle for a season isn't the same as rejuvenating one for the better part of a decade. Shingle Serum is engineered for the latter — and warrantied to prove it.

EPA Safer Choice Certified

Shingle Serum meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Safer Choice standards. Every ingredient is reviewed for human health and environmental safety — a rare distinction in the roofing chemical category.

For homeowners, that means a treatment that's safe around families, pets, gardens, and Florida's stormwater systems. For us, it means we can apply it with confidence on every property we visit.

Roof Cleaning: The First Step

A rejuvenator can only do its job on a clean substrate. Before Shingle Serum is ever applied, roofs are gently soft-washed to lift years of algae streaking, biological growth, and airborne staining — restoring the shingle's true color and preparing the surface for even penetration.

The before-and-after speaks for itself: same roof, same shingles, radically different presentation. Roof cleaning alone extends shingle life. Paired with Shingle Serum, it resets the clock.
